The DR’s north coast
Puerto Plata is the quieter, greener side of the country — the northern coastline where the Cordillera Septentrional drops almost straight into the sea, where the beach towns still feel like beach towns, and where Mount Isabel de Torres rises 800 metres behind the city with the only cable car in the Caribbean running to its summit. Weddings here range from Casa Colonial’s spa-hotel beachfront to boutique villas in Sosúa and Cabarete. Bring us here for a wedding that trades “resort strip” for “coastline.”

What to know
Planning notes for Puerto Plata
POP, not PUJ
Gregorio Luperón International (POP) sits ten minutes east of Puerto Plata city and twenty-five minutes from Sosúa and Cabarete. It’s a smaller airport with fewer direct flights, so we plan around midday arrivals from JFK/EWR and route the timeline accordingly.
Sunset in the wrong direction
Because the north coast faces north, the sun doesn’t set into the water — it sets to your left. It changes the portrait plan: we’ll steal an hour before the ceremony while the light is behind us, and again after dinner for the couple.
The trade-wind season is real
Cabarete is a world-class kite & windsurf beach for a reason — from December to March, afternoons can hit 15–20 knots. Sound plans and light-fixture plans have to account for it. We’ll walk through it during pre-production.
